There is a map here. From Melbourne, go up the Calder, near Big Hill, take the turn off to Marong. Turn left opposite the Marong Golf Course up St. Arnud Rd (a few hundred meters out of Marong) and go up there a couple of kilometres. The field is on the left and is close to the road.
The recommended accomodation is Barclay on View
The scale competition manoevres are here
Since 3D Downunder is the first major 3D comp in Australia the classes will be difficult to set. We can not use the same set up as other countries as the level of flying may vary a lot.
What we will do for this event is give guidelines as to what manoeuvres pilots in each class should be doing. These are only guidelines and it will still be up to pilots discretion as to what class they choose to enter.
If you are still unsure please ask one of the event organisers and we will be able to help you out.
The judging criteria for the 3D comp will be as follows,
How the flight is flown ie a low to the ground fast flight with heaps of manoeuvres will score better then one flown higher with fewer moves. The style of music chosen for the flight and how the pilot fly’s to the music will also be considered in this category.
In this category the judges will be looking for the heli to fly from one manoeuvre to the next with no pauses, points will be lost if the heli hovers or takes excessive time to move on to the next manoeuvre. Smooth turns and flight in various orientations should not loose points.
How precise the manoeuvres are executed ie how straight the flips, loops and rolls ECT are. If the pilot chooses to fly complicated manoeuvres ie piro flips, tic tocs and funnels ECT they should also be judged on how precise they are done. At tight piro flip will sore more then one were the heli covers a lot of sky.
This is a very important part of 3D flying the judges will be looking for the helicopter to be keep away from all spectators judges and any one else that may be in the area. Also the judges will be looking to see how much control the pilot has over the helicopter during the flight.
During 3D Downunder the judging will also incorporate a modified version of the K Factor method of scoring. Pilots will be able to select 5 manoeuvres from a list. The list will consist of all manoeuvres from loops to piro loops. The more difficult the manoeuvre the more point will be awarded. The pilots score for the above 4 categories will then be multiplied by the K-Factor to give the total score for that round, the two rounds will then be added together to give a total score for the comp. The pilot that scores the most points in each class will be the winner.
