Lively galactic nuclei (AGN) are one of the so much brilliant gadgets identified to astronomy. but, regardless of years of extreme and wide-ranging study, the controversy over their basic resource of strength maintains. during this quantity, the individuals deal with such issues as what facts there's for and opposed to unified schemes for AGN and the way the AGN populations evolve over cosmological timescales. fast development has been made towards answering a few of these questions by means of a number of large-scale, multi-wavelength tracking campaigns and the most recent new release of satellite-borne observations. This quantity presents a invaluable evaluate and well timed replace of the intriguing and speedily constructing box of AGN examine for college kids and researchers within the fields of astronomy and astrophysics.

Tadhunter * Abstract Various observational tests of unified schemes for radio sources are reviewed critically. It is shown that, although some of the results might raise doubts, there exists no definitive evidence against these schemes. 1. Introduction There is now considerable evidence to support the idea that the radiation from active galactic nuclei (AGN) is emitted anisotropically.

Duschl, Springer-Verlag, in press. Imaging Spectrophotometry of Ext ended-Emission Seyfert Galaxies Richard W. Pogge ** Michael M. DeRobertis ^ Abstract We present highlights of a multi-band optical imaging study of the ENLRs in seven Seyfert galaxies. 6m CFHT reveal a remarkable wealth of emission-line and optical continuum structures. We show an example from our data of an apparent mechanical interaction between radio plasma ejecta and the ENLR, and describe an extended near-UV continuum component, which appears to be scattered nuclear continuum light, that is seen in all of the five Seyfert 2s, but is conspicuously absent in the two extended-emission Seyfert Is.
